Milwaukee under the leadership of Mayor Barret has been making growing efforts to increase naturalization numbers among its residents. In a naturalization ceremony in March 2015, more than 120 individuals from 49 nations were sworn in as United States citizens in a special naturalization ceremony administered by U.S. Magistrate Judge Nancy Joseph, a naturalized citizen from Haiti, and hosted by the Milwaukee Area Technical College and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
